Jim and Skye O’Grady met through mutual friends just after graduating from UCSD. Both originally from Northern California – Jim from San Mateo and Skye from Sacramento – the pair have lived in Carlsbad with their two daughters, Grace and Lily, for 16 years. “We really love Carlsbad and think there’s no better place,” said Skye.
Jim, who has been working in software development for about 25 years and is currently the director of development at Pirch, is an avid golfer. “Jim recently joined Aviara Golf Club,” noted Skye. “He enjoys playing in member tournaments and social events at the club.”
The O’Grady daughters both attend local 92011 schools. Grace will be a freshman at Sage Creek High School and Lily will be a seventh grader at Aviara Middle School. “I spent a lot of time volunteering on the Aviara Oaks PTA board when Grace and Lily attended the school,” said Skye.
Instead, Skye volunteers for LA Galaxy San Diego, formerly Carlsbad United Football Club, where both Grace and Lily began playing at just three years of age. “The organization was in need of a VP of finance for their board in the fall of 2011, so I jumped in to help,” explained Skye, who has 20 years’ experience working as a financial analyst and is currently the corporate controller at Creative Mines, LLC. “One of my favorite pastimes is watching my kids play sports, so it seemed to fit that I volunteer at their soccer club!”

Today, Skye is president of the board. “I truly enjoy being a part of this club as I have made some really great friendships,” shared Skye. “I really adore watching the younger players in the recreation league – the smiles and celebrations you see are heartwarming, and the parent support and bonding on the sideline is amazing.”
In their downtime, the O’Grady family loves to travel and frequent their local eateries. “We enjoy meeting friends at Notorious Burger, Señor Grubby’s, and Pizza Port,” shared Skye. “Last summer we were able to take a two-week road trip up the coast to Vancouver to attend the Women’s World Cup and met up with some of our local Carlsbad peeps at the game.”
However, most of the O’Grady’s time seems to be spent with the soccer club. “It’s been a great experience to see my kids grow up in this club,” recalled Skye. “I can see several of the benefits that a team has provided to both my daughters – it goes so much further than just soccer!”
