Taking the Stage
For Jenna LaMar, performing in the Carlsbad High School’s show choir is a way to combine her loves of singing, dancing, and performing on stage. “I have been in show choir for three years, and we have won many awards. It is a lot of work to make the competition set amazing – it’s like a mini Broadway show. One big honor for me was being one of the leads in the show choir set my freshman year and having solos my sophomore year,” said Jenna. She is quick to point out that show choir is a huge commitment, with preparation for competition beginning in the summer months. Members of show choir work with choreographers and vocal coaches and often travel great distances to compete during the February-through-April competition season.
The acting bug bit Jenna quite early, as her family recalls her love for performing beginning when she was just a baby. Over the years, Jenna has participated in several local theater groups and been a part of many plays, musical productions, and drama festivals. “I have worked with a top acting coach and vocal coach. I also love dancing – it is a huge part of my active lifestyle. I love feeling strong, powerful, and confident,” related Jenna.
Jenna plays piano and teaches herself how to play songs. She is inspired by jazz music and enjoys listening to many different kinds of live music and going to concerts.
