The California Distinguished Schools Program has returned after a three-year break, replacing the California Gold Ribbon Schools Program.Aviara Oaks Elementary and Pacific Rim Elementary are the two Carlsbad Unified schools that have been named 2018 California Distinguished Schools. According to the California Department of Education, 287 elementary schools across the state, and 33 elementary schools in San Diego County, are being honored under the Distinguished Schools Program this year.

“These schools implement outstanding educational programs and practices that help California students realize their potential, and put them on the path to achieve their dreams,” said Torlakson, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, in a news release.
